Background and Areas of Expertise
Substance Use Disorders (SUD):
I have over a decade of experience working in a variety of addiction treatment settings. I have participated in program development and created a curriculum for an Intensive Outpatient Addiction Treatment Program. I have worked in almost all levels of care and have supported some of the most difficult to reach groups — such as adolescents in the early stages of change and young adults experiencing homelessness. I offer both long term consultation for those who want a place to discuss the ins and outs of working with SUDs in private practice and brief consultations if you simply want to discuss one or two cases. In addition I can offer group consultation with up to 3 clinicians for 90 minute meetings.
Contextual Behavioral Science (CBS) Modalities:
It wasn’t until after I completed my graduate training that I stumbled upon Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I had barely heard of this modality and was wary of anything in the Behaviorism camp, assuming this was another manualized treatment model that neglected to appropriately tend to emotions or the client-therapist relationship. After attending a Level 1 ACT training with renown trainer, Tim Gordon, I realized how wrong my assumptions were. ACT, and the broader world of Contextual Behavioral Science has completely changed how I show up as a clinicians. It’s armed me with increased flexibility, deeper compassion for my clients, and a conceptualization of suffering that offers more clarity around my purpose with clients. ACT is a third wave cognitive behavioral therapy, building upon the strengths and weakness that older models like CBT offered. ACT opened my eyes to reducing suffering without having to change thinking, a stance that has had a profound impact on my own life.

In addition I engage in bi-weekly consultation with an expert researcher and clinician
Resume and Relevant Experience
Ongoing Adjunct Professor at Antioch University, involving development of novel curriculum

I have presented or spoke at the following venues: local NAMI conference, local high schools, Ryther, Acuity Counseling, and Northpoint Treatment Center
Individual Consultation
Most graduate programs for therapists offer very little education about Substance Use Disorders, or Contextual Behavioral Science modalities. Since both of these have become passions of mine over the years I’m excited to share my knowledge and support others in their learning. Specialty consultation can be an excellent addition to your learning as an associate, or can function to increase your competence in these areas even if you are a seasoned clinician. I offer both short term consultation and ongoing consultation. Short term consultation is a good fit for those that want to discuss a single case or topic, whereas ongoing consultation is ideal if you are looking to deepen your practice and cultivate a safe landing zone to process your work as a therapist.
Areas of expertise I generally consult on:
Gaining confidence working with substance using clients
Gaining confidence in working with people impacted by a loved one’s substance use (my training is informed by evidence based Community Reinforcement and Family Training)
Helping clinicians develop a values driven private practice, using ACT principles
